April 15 Still The Deadline For 1040 Returns – At This Time
The Covid-19 Virus has changed so much in the last few weeks, and some of you may have heard that some sort of tax return relief was put into place by the IRS. That is true, BUT, and this is the important question we will answer for individual taxpayers, “Is April 15 still the deadline for 1040 returns – at this time?”

The answer is “Yes”. At the time of this writing, the deadline for individuals filing is still the 15th of April. The relief that was granted was for payment of taxes owed by individuals or business entities, and that relief is in the form of deferment of payment until July 15th, 2020.
An individual still needs to file his/her taxes, or file an extension by April 15th. The last date for filing a business return was March 15, so that date is already past, but, if your business filed an extension, the deferment is available.
To get into the nitty-gritty of this, here is a piece from marketwatch.com that gives an excellent overview of the current situation.
Now, as the article points out, this information is valid as of this morning. It’s possible the IRS could come back in the next few days, and extend the filing deadline for individual taxpayers.
